My Background
I first began working with university students while still a student myself at the University of Northern Colorado in a Peer Advisor role. It was during this time, that I knew a career in international education was the best fit for me. Upon graduation I accepted a job in Austin, TX working for International Studies Abroad (ISA) where I was a Regional Director tasked with working with the Universities in NAFSA Region II. While at ISA, I had the opportunity to work with UNL in numerous facets and quickly became a huge fan of the state of Nebraska. After much thought, I left my position at ISA after accepting a position at UNL as the Assistant Director of Recruitment for the Office of Online & Distance Education. In this role, my main focus was international strategies, recruitment, and marketing. Additionally, in the Fall of 2013 I began pursuing my MBA through UNL with a specialization in International Business and Marketing. In April 2015, ready for a new challenge and a return to the education abroad field, I accepted a position in the UNL Education Abroad Office as the Education Abroad & Marketing Coordinator.
My Study/Work Abroad
Originally from the Black Hills of South Dakota, I knew before attending my freshman orientation at the University of Northern Colorado that studying abroad was priority of mine. In 2009, during the second semester of my sophomore year at UNC I ventured to Sevilla, Spain with ISA to study abroad for the Spring semester while working on my Spanish language minor. The time I spent in Spain truly ignited my passion for travel and other cultures and upon my return to the U.S. I accepted a position on campus in the Center for International Education as a Peer Advisor. For my final two years at UNC I had the opportunity to work with students on helping them to plan their own experience abroad. Since my time studying abroad in Spain, I have been privileged to work in various positions which have allowed me extensive opportunities to continue with my desire for international travel. Over this past winter break, I had the chance to visit my 26th country, Denmark, and I have no intentions of slowing down in the near future.
My Ideal Next Travel Destination
My favorite question to ask anyone I meet is “if you could go anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go?” The only downside is when they in turn, ask me the same question. Ideally, my next stop would be to Croatia, Greece, and Slovenia, but it is most likely to be Reykjavik, Iceland this September. However, I’ve had my eye on South America, specifically Peru for quite some time.
